Immunology is crucial in regenerative medicine offering many opportunities for unmet medical needs in the fields of stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy.

Guest edited by Professor Paul Fairchild (University of Oxford, UK) the special focus issue of Regenerative Medicine on “Immunological challenges and opportunities in regenerative medicine” ( to be published in early April 2015), highlights the importance of immunology and discusses the various strategies currently being pursued to ameliorate current immunological challenges in the field of regenerative medicine.

"By bringing together a broad range of expertise in immunology and stem cell biology, we hope that this Special Focus Issue will highlight the immunological challenges that lie ahead for regenerative medicine, stimulate productive dialog between the two fields and open up new avenues of research.Only through such interdisciplinary collaboration will solutions ultimately be found."
