Novel tissue-engineered approach for myocardial regeneration

A team of scientists from the University of Helsinki (Helsinki, Finland) and FuWai Hospital (Beijing, China) have developed a novel tissue-engineered therapy for regenerating damaged myocardial tissue. Ischemic heart disease (IHD), characterized by the lack of blood supply to the heart, is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. This lack of blood supply can cause severe damage to the muscular tissue of the heart, known as the myocardium, which can in turn result in heart failure.
