Our stem cell and regenerative medicine news picks from 11-12th October

Four scientists from the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA, Dr Reza Ardehali, Dr Elissa Hallem, Dr Sririam Kosuri and Dr Lili Yang, have received a NIH Director’s New Innovator Award to help forward revolutionary stem cell and neuroscience in medicine.

UK scientists have shown that stem cells can be cultured from the corneal limbus in vitroand believe they could treat conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the developed world.

Neuralstem announced that the first patient in their Phase I trial testing NSI-566 human neural stem cells in the treatment of chronic spinal cord injury was treated last week.
