Hybrid fibrocartilage tissue bioprinted for regenerative knee cartilage treatment

A team of scientists from the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (NC, USA) has bioprinted hybrid fibrocartilage tissue constructs in an effort to develop regenerative treatment opportunities for knee joint injuries. Generally, fibrocartilage helps to connect tendons, ligaments and bones in the meniscus of the knee. The cartilaginous meniscus can be degraded with arthritis and injuries, to a point where it may need to be partially or fully removed and replaced in order to establish normal function and movement.
