Linear scale-up of hiPSC cell lines using Vertical-Wheel® Bireactors
The use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) for cell and gene therapy development is gaining in popularity due to their capacity for self-renewal and differentiation into a multitude of cell types without the ethical concerns and immune rejection associated with traditional embryonic stem cells. While current expansion protocols typically use horizontal impellers, varying results in cell yield and cell health across scales are often a challenge and elongate costly process development efforts. This study demonstrates how Vertical-Wheel Bioreactors maintain comparable cell expansion, morphology and surface marker expressing when scaling from 100mL to 3L volumes.
