3D printed organ systems used to accurately mimic drug responses

Written by Sonia Mannan

3D printed organs were combined to create a system that can more accurately predict multi-organ response to drugs. A research team has used 3D printing to create organs which were then combined and used to accurately model the human body for assessing how drugs affect human organs. This is the first time 3D printed organ structures have been combined this way. Their study was published in Scientific Reports. The goal of the effort is known as a "body-on-a-chip" and its aim is to help reduce expenses and the failure rate that pharmaceutical companies face when developing new medications.
