3D printing saves woman declared inoperable by several hospitals
German surgeons are now incorporating 3D printing into surgical planning for life-saving vascular treatments. Surgeons from the University Hospital Mainz (Germany) have used Stratasys (MN, USA) PolyJet 3D printing to plan the surgery for a complex illness in a 53-year-old woman. The condition in question was an aortic malformation near to the heart which was causing a blood vessel to bulge in the patient's neck. Due to the risk-laden and difficult nature of the surgery required, she was refused treatment by several other hospitals.
