The World Stem Cell Summit kicks off 2020 in Miami (21—24 Jan, FL, USA). Here are my picks for the not-to-miss sessions.
What is the World Stem Cell Summit?
The World Stem Cell Summit will take place in Miami (FL, USA) between January 21—24 2020, alongside the Phacilitate Leaders World, bringing together some of the leading names in the field from academia, industry and healthcare. With representatives from all over the world, the conference will provide an opportunity for over 1650 attendees, from at least 38 countries, to discuss some of the most innovative stem cell work being undertaken and its translation into clinical trials.
What should you look out for?
With a great range of science covering all manner of tissues, there is a talk for everybody; however, the sessions I am most excited for are:
- Jan 23, 2020 — 16:05: ‘Autologous fat grafting in breast cancer reconstruction’ with Bernard Lee from Harvard Medical School (MA, USA).
- Jan 23, 2020 — 16:50: ‘Skeletal muscle progenitors as a therapeutic platform’ with Ron Jankowski, the VP of Cook Myosite (PA, USA).
- Jan 24, 2020 — 11.20: ‘Cellular therapies for diabetes: the transition from transplantation of purified adult pancreatic islets to stem cell derived insulin producing cell products’ with Camillo Ricordi from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (FL, USA).
- Jan 24, 2020 — 11:20: ‘Treatment of ischemic heart disease with mesenchymal stromal cells’ with Jens Kastrup from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).
The conference also offers a range of exciting discussions addressing some of the big ethical and practical questions:

- Jan 23, 2020 — 16:20: ‘Creating a company identity in a crowded market’ with Matt Trudeau from Bluebird bio (MA, USA).
