Oxygen-generating bioink enhances cell growth and regeneration
A collaborative team of researchers, including a group from the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (CA, USA), has developed a novel bioink, capable of generating oxygen. By generating oxygen, the bioink could be later applied to the biofabrication of replacement tissues and organs as transplanted tissues would be able to keep themselves alive before blood vessels penetrate the tissue. Because of the bioink’s ability for generating oxygen, the researchers claim the ability of the cells to regenerate new tissue is also enhanced.
