‘Self-healing’ gel developed to build complex shapes for bone and cartilage replacement

A team of engineers from Penn State University (PA, USA) has developed a novel method employing 'yield stress' gel for producing complex 3D structures with a goal to develop tissues for bone and cartilage replacement. Previously it has been difficult to bioprint structures with the thin bioprinting films available, so the team hopes this novel approach will help to provide a fully-three dimensional shape to biological constructs.
