Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled trial
In this journal article, originally published in Regenerative Medicine, researchers evaluated MSC therapy on pain, function and disease modification in knee osteoarthritis.
Published in Regenerative Medicine, this journal article sought to evaluate how effective adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) could be on pain, function and on modifying the condition in osteoarthritis of the knee. MSCs are capable of differentiating into osteoblast, chondrocytes and adipocytes, and have been of huge interest to the regenerative medicine community, especially for conditions such as arthritis. The ease of isolation from both adipose tissue and bone marrow has also fuelled their use.
Examining 30 participants who presented with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, the randomized trial tested various concentrations of MSC in single or multiple injections.
