Bioprinted, vascularized proximal tubules lead the way in renal research

A team at the Wyss Institute, part of Harvard University (MA, USA), has bioprinted vascularized proximal tubules which are reportedly capable of mimicking kidney resorption functions. A collaborative team from the Wyss Institute's 3D Organ Engineering Initiative (MA, USA) and Roche Innovation Center Basel (Switzerland) has bioprinted a 3D vascularized proximal tubule model, which includes perfusable tubules and blood vessels printed adjacent to each other within an engineered extracellular matrix.
