Bioprinting and computer modeling facilitates study of cancer spread in blood vessels

A team of scientists from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (CA, USA) has used bioprinted, living brain vasculature models in tandem with computer modeling simulations to better understand the attachment of tumor cells to blood vessels. Outlined in Science Advances, the researchers claim that this work could pave the way towards predictive strategies for determining the spread of cancer within individual patients. By investigating the attachment of cancer cells to blood vessels, the team is able to observe the first step in cancer metastasis.
