A BRIGHTER future for research: an alternative to animal experimentation

Written by Ashiya Salim

The European Union (EU)-funded BRIGHTER project is developing a new 3D bioprinting system which will allow researchers to generate personalized, vascularized tissue as a replacement for animal experimentation in the laboratory.  Researchers from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC, Spain), the Goethe Universität Frankfurt (Germany) and the Technion Center (Haifa, Israel), alongside noted companies in the biotechnology sector including Mycronic (Täby, Sweden) and Cellendes (Reutlingen, Germany), are to participate in the BRIGHTER project, led by Dr Elena Martínez.   The project aims to develop a new 3D bioprinting system that utilizes light to allow for the creation of complex tissue that replicates natural...
